Pink Wednesday

Many nail bloggers & polish fans participate in "Pink Wednesday," an homage to the movie Mean Girls, in which The Plastics” always wear pink on Wednesdays.

I'm kind of anti-pink in general. I don't care for the gender-specific connotation placed on the color, not to mention that pink looks, well, pretty terrible on me. :) When my daughter was born, I swore I'd never dress her in pink ... but that quickly ended due to the excessive amount of pink baby girl clothes available, and later, to her own love of wearing pink. That said, I rarely participate in Pink Wednesday - in fact, pink is probably just after yellow and orange on the list of polish colors I own the least of ! Still, my little girl loves pink in every incarnation.

So today, in honor of my sweet girl Daelyn and all things pink, I give you ... Pink Wednesday!

This is 2 coats of Claire's Candy Shop (a sheer pink jelly packed with circus glitter, and a dupe of the Deborah Lippmann polish of the same name) over 2 coats of Sinful Colors Beautiful Girl. Even for an "anti-pink" like me, I have to say I was pleased with the combo, and it really does remind me of candy!

What are you rocking on this Pink Wednesday? :)

Ahoy, Sinful Colors POTC dupes!

A few days ago I heard about a possible dupe collection from Sinful Colors for the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection that was released last month. The Sinful Colors collection is called "Adventure Island," and some of the colors are definitely dupes for the POTCs! There was an article posted on LUUUX.com a few days back showing the new colors. I went into my local Rite Aid to look for Waves of Enchantment from the WnW Mermaid's Cove collection (no luck), but lo and behold, they DID have the Sinful Adventure Island colors, and pretty much all the colors were in stock!

Left to Right: Star Fish (dupe for Sparrow Me The Drama), Rise and Shine, Verbena (dupe for Planks A Lot), Open Seas (dupe for Mermaid's Tears), and Seaweed (dupe for Stranger Tides). On the display it looked like there were also dupes for Steady As She Rose and Skull and Glossbones, but I didn't grab these colors and don't know their names. $1.99 each, folks!! I don't care if they're a blatant ripoff ... These are a steal! I also had to grab the hot pink Sally Hansen Crackle polish. :)

Above: Super duper flashy picture, but ... ignoring the very top left one (which is Funky Fingers Baby Baby Baby), these are, left to right: Rise and Shine, Seaweed, Open Seas, Verbena, and Star Fish.

Above: Here they are again, along with some other colors I'll blog about later :)

What do you think? :)

Feeling blue

4/29/11 - Feeling this gorgeous Sinful Colors blue, Hot Spot! I bought this polish with the intention of making a franken for the coveted, VHTF Essie Starry Starry Night. Here it is alone. It's a dark, royal (almost navy) blue with turquoise microglitter - but the microglitter is so fine that it's barely noticeable (especially when combined with a silver glitter topcoat, a few photos down).

Then I decided to play a little. Base is still Sinful Colors Hot Spot, but on top I put one coat of: CC Revvvolution (thumb), CC Worth The Risque (index), Ulta Pinata-Yada-Yada (middle), Sinful Colors You Just Wait (ring), and Cover Girl Boundless Color Bronze Beauty (pinky).

Back to the original plan: SSN dupe. It's not, as you can see, because I put the silver glitter on as a topcoat rather than mixing it into Hot Spot. I think, though, that if you darken Hot Spot with a bit of black and add some silver glitter, you'll have a decent shot at a dupe of everyone's favorite starry sky polish!
